Onteora park is a small, private community outside of Tannersville.     It was founded by Candace Wheeler and her brother, Frances Thurber in 1883 originally as an artist colony.     They originally named it Lotus Land.
"Showing Star Rock, Ferry's Tower, the Onteora Church and many costly homes partly hidden among the trees."

Artist Seat is named for inscriptions carved by Thomas Cole and Asher Durand, and other Hudson River School Artists who frequented this unique spot.     One of the lakes shown on the postcard is Colgate Lake.
